Year 3 enjoy learning about the river
Well, we managed to dodge the rain and enjoy a day with the River Museum staff.
We had a ‘classroom’ session looking at the landscape of Henley and the effects of different types of rocks; we learned the meaning of lots of long words like: impermeable, deposition, evaporation, precipitation – to name but a few; we looked at river transport, leisure, employment and environment.
Our second session was to stretch our legs and walk along the towpath towards Marsh Lock and see examples of floodplains, tributaries, eyots, deposition and of course ducks, geese, swans, cygnets and boats galore.
Our third session was a good look around the museum: the history of Henley, rivers and their uses and the wildlife of the River Thames and we even sat for a little bit and found out a few facts about one or two of the animals on display – something to take back to school and stick in our books!
We took loads of photos too and will put a collage of those in our books so you can see what we got up to!
A tiring day, but hopefully enjoyable to all and a learning experience for the boys. Who can beat eating our sandwiches on the benches beside the Thames!
