Gamelan Workshop and Tate Modern
On Thursday 9th May, all Year 7 spent the day in London, playing Gamelan at the Royal Festival Hall and visiting the Tate Modern art gallery in London.
Gamelan is the indigenous music of Indonesia, and the purpose-built room in the basement of the RFH is a fine setting for their Javanese Gamelan Orchestra. Having spent 2 hours in a practical session with a very experienced tutor, the boys then enjoyed the sights and sounds of the South Bank on their way to visit the Tate Modern, to take in some of the modern art on display.
Even though it absolutely poured down with rain for a large part of the day, no-one’s spirits were dampened, and the boys came home tired, but having had a wonderful day of culture in the capital!
