Mrs Braden highlights the work of the Music Department
This week we are excited to be able to award our first two ABRSM Music Medals, which are a new type of award for musicians who prepare a solo piece, an ensemble or duet performance and a separate improvisation, sight reading or aural test element. These awards fit neatly between the traditional ABRSM grade levels but offer pupils the chance to develop their ensemble skills alongside their individual performance. Congratulations to Hugo and Sylvester, who will be wearing their medals with pride - let's see how many more we can award this year!
With a focus on the huge benefits of ensemble playing, we also launched our new Moulsford Big Band and String Ensembles this week. I would strongly encourage every boy who learns a string instrument (violin, viola, cello, double bass, or harp) or a wind or brass instrument (flute, clarinet, saxophone, cornet, trumpet, trombone) to attend - these groups are a wonderful opportunity for boys of all levels of experience and ability to play music and have a lot of fun together. It was fantastic to see the enjoyment, courage and teamwork on show from pupils in Years 4 to 8 and I am looking forward to watching this band grow as the term goes on.
