End of Term Sport Review, Lee Chaffey, Director of Sport

The start of the rugby season after half term has been an exciting and rewarding time for the boys from Year 3 to Year 8. Competing on what is a very challenging circuit, we have faced schools that have been playing rugby since September. This provides a fantastic opportunity to test ourselves against some of the best prep schools in the region, and the boys have embraced the challenge with great enthusiasm. As we look ahead to the second half of the season in January, we are confident that the experiences from this term will stand us in good stead for further development and progress.

There have been many highlights to celebrate this term. The Under 13 and Under 11 Friday Night Lights showcase games, which raised money for Brave Mind, the British Heart Foundation and Cardiac Risk in the Young (CRY), were a real standout. These events brought together the school community in support of a great cause and offered a special opportunity for the boys to play under the lights in front of an enthusiastic crowd. We’d like to thank The Oratory School, Woodcote for sponsoring this new annual event.

Our Under 11B team represented Moulsford at the IAPS tournament, gaining valuable experience in a highly competitive pool. The Under 10 teams have also had a busy term, taking part in a range of fixtures and tournaments at senior schools, which has given them an excellent taste of competitive rugby. Meanwhile, our Under 8 and Under 9 teams have continued to develop their skills and understanding of the game, facing schools such as The Beacon, Abingdon Prep, St John's Beaumont, Caldicott, OPS, and Chesham Prep throughout the Autumn term.

In addition to rugby, the boys have celebrated successes in other sports. Moulsford was proud to host the regional ESFA tournament, where our Under 11 and Under 10 football teams performed admirably. The term ended on a high note with Moulsford retaining the National Real Tennis Doubles Trophy, an incredible achievement, and we eagerly anticipate entering the singles competition in Spring 2025.

On an individual level, we have celebrated 36 Team of the Week awards and 8 Lionhearts, recognising those who have demonstrated the school’s core values during Games and fixtures. These accolades highlight the dedication, sportsmanship, and character displayed by our boys across all age groups.

As the Autumn term concludes, we would like to wish everyone in the Moulsford community a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. We look forward to returning in January for the second half of the rugby season.
