Year 1 explore the National Marine Aquarium
Did you know that an octopus has three hearts and nine brains, that a jellyfish cannot swim and that lobsters urinate to communicate with one another? These are some of the fascinating facts that the children in Year 1 learned when they were taken on a virtual tour of the National Marine Aquarium in Plymouth. They were rather amused by Friday the Turtle, who they learned was a somewhat bullish character: who would suspect a turtle of headbutting other creatures to steal their food and biting the bottoms of the aquarium divers to assert his dominance? It would seem that life in the deep is both majestic and relatable to us humans! Indeed, we proved that we could move just like some of the creatures.
A huge thank you to Becky, our friendly and informative guide.
