Nurturing a love of reading
There have been times this week when the library has felt like Paddington Station on a busy day! We are seeing more visitors again in the library and I am so pleased! It's been lovely to see so many boys coming into the library to borrow books and to read at breaktime. I've missed them while we have been running a distanced version of the library.
As a reminder, boys in the main school are able to borrow two books for up to three weeks from the school library. We have a range of non-fiction as well as fiction books.
If your boys have ideas for books that they feel should be in the library then book recommendations are always well received. Ask them to find me and we can talk about their ideas for new books. I have already had lots of enthusiastic suggestions this week and there are certainly some firm favourites amongst the boys. During one break time we even had three boys reading a copy of the same Alex Rider graphic novel!
Thank you for supporting them to read at home. It's very obvious that many of the boys coming into the library are reading outside of school. We have AF Harrold, a local poet, coming into school next Thursday to help us celebrate National Poetry Day and I'm hoping that this may inspire the boys to love poetry as well as prose.
I am in school from 8.30am on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays and from 10am on Tuesdays and Thursdays. I finish at 1.45pm every day.
If you would like to discuss your son's reading choices then do feel free to email me on [email protected]
