The Three Little Pigs Showdown
Year 1 have been learning about Materials. This week, the 'Big Bad Wolf' hairdryer challenged them to work collaboratively to make houses that would be wind-resistant. Team 1 had the task of working with straws, Team 2 with sticks and Team 3 had what seemed the enviable job of working with bricks. However, the results were not as straightforward as we predicted. In fact, all houses resisted the huffs and puffs due to some very creative thinking about how to make straw and sticks more stable ... with some form of good adhesive; and that if the bricks do not have this, they risk being unstable too. This mirrored our learning about Lego bricks in Topic: until they had the 'tubes' to stick them together, they would slide off one another - how frustrating!
