Expedition to Rushall Farm
On Tuesday the intrepid Lions and Leopards set forth on an expedition to Rushall Farm in Bradfield. We were very fortunate with the weather, which was incredibly uplifting. The boys met Camilla, the 18 year old Cooney Cooney pig, as well as Big Pig who was … bigger than them! We took a tractor ride around the farm and stopped to see the cows feeding. As they are beef cattle they keep their calves, and the boys had the opportunity to watch the calves with their mothers. This tied in nicely with our Science topic, Humans and Other Animals, in which we have been looking at animal babies. Other treats included hand feeding the chickens and turkeys, investigating the harvest and inspecting the chalk pit. The highlight, as is ever the case, was lunch and a kick about with a football! The adults were very impressed with the ingenuity of the boys – they somehow, in the manner of small boys, unearthed a battered and ripped football, which they rendered useable by stuffing it full of grass. Problem solving at its finest!
A good time was had by all - the staff at Rushall did us the honour of saying it was their favourite school trip all year.
