Summer Events at Moulsford
As I write, I am sure many of you are sharpening your pencils while I try and sharpen my wit, in preparation for tonight’s Headmaster’s Quiz. With roughly 200 people attending, we are looking forward to sharing an evening of fun and socialising. It’s almost exactly five years since the start of the pandemic, and it’s worth remembering how lucky we are to be able to enjoy all the fabulous social events on the family journey through Moulsford, which play a key part in creating our community and lifelong friendships among parents. Thank you in advance to the Parents Association for organising what I am sure will be a hugely entertaining evening.
Many schools don’t have such a vibrant and social parent community and we must nurture and cherish what we have. This week sees the launch of ticket sales for two great events in the Summer term for us to look forward to: the MPA Summer Party on Saturday 21st June, and the charity Summer Soirée on Tuesday 24th June, and we hope that many parents will be able to support one or both events.
The MPA Summer Party is exactly what it says – a party. It is known for being a wonderful celebration towards the end of the school year for both parents and staff, and we are enormously grateful to the MPA Summer Party committee, newly formed for this year’s event, for all the effort they have put into organising the excellent theme of ‘Lights, Camera… ‘80s!’ We look forward to partying the night away dancing to ‘80s bangers and enjoying a great evening with friends and colleagues. I had better start planning my outfit now to try and better one of my previous efforts shown above!
The Summer Soirée is a charity event, formally known as The Summer Lunch, and has been hosted at Moulsford for 30 years, with large sums raised for Macmillan, NSPCC, Child Bereavement UK, Oxford Children’s Hospital, and many other very important charities. This is an event run by a separate parent committee, open to allcomers both inside and outside of the Moulsford community, with the key aim of fundraising for the chosen charity. It is and always has been specifically timed to follow on from the MPA Party/Ball for two reasons: firstly, so that facilities can be shared where possible, to enable the charity event to raise more funds; secondly, it is the only week of the year when a significant number of the pupils are not in school as they are away on Activities Week, thus enabling the school to provide the venue.
This year, the new Summer Soirée charity event committee decided that a late afternoon event running into the evening (5.30 – 9.30pm) might suit working parents better than the traditional lunch timings, and so the Summer Soirée format came to pass. Funds will be raised through shopping stalls (10% of all takings), a raffle and a silent auction, all while guests enjoy early evening drinks and supper. We are delighted that this year, all profits will support The Charlie Waller Trust, a charity dedicated to promoting mental health for children and young people. Founded in Newbury, the trust works tirelessly to address the fact that 1 in 5 people will face a mental health challenge, with 75% of those challenges beginning before the age of 25, and 50% before the age of 14. We encourage you to take a moment to learn about the invaluable work done by the charity: Watch here.
Both the school and The Charlie Waller Trust are extremely grateful to the MPA and Party committee for allowing their marquee facility to be re-used. It will provide a fabulous setting for fundraising for such a worthy cause.
Many thanks go to both event committees for the enormous amount of time and effort each have already put into launching their excellent but very different events. Please click the links above for more information and to secure your tickets for what are both sure to be sellout events.
