Head's Blog: Choosing a Senior School

Head's Blog

It was a pleasure to host the Year 5 parents for the Senior Schools’ Information evening last week. At this annual meeting, Tiffany Squire (Deputy Head) and I give parents an overview of the transition process for life beyond Moulsford.

This year, we were delighted to be joined by James Dahl, the Master of Wellington College, who talked from a different perspective about the next stage and how parents might differentiate between the many excellent senior school options.  Moulsford and Wellington have very strong links, and I have worked closely with James throughout my eleven years as Head, as he was Registrar prior to becoming Wellington’s Master. James reminded me that two of Wellington’s Head Boys in the last five years have been Old Moles, and with this in mind he extolled the virtues of both Moulsford children and Year 9 senior school entry.

Choosing a School is both a large emotional and financial investment, and with our sector experiencing significant change at the moment, the shifting landscape can be unsettling for parents to navigate. One constant is the support you will receive from Moulsford. Parents in Years 5, 6, 7 & 8 will know that our senior schools’ advice is led by me, and that I meet all Year 5 parents individually to discuss a strategy for their child. I, and the Moulsford team, then give ongoing advice and guidance through to Year 8.

We know your children very well, we will always aim high for them, we have very strong links with the Heads, Registrars and staff of roughly twenty senior schools, and we will give you honest and impartial advice. If parents have any senior school queries, or are uncertain about the direction or entry stage for a particular school, please do contact me or Tiffany Squire direct for advice. Please click here to see our Choosing a Senior School after Moulsford booklet (2023/24) which parents in all year groups may find of interest. As there is so much change at present, we are in the process of updating this booklet.
