Today marks the finale of STEAM Week, which has been an opportunity for us to focus on some really exciting projects relating to Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts & Mathematics. Moulsford has been a hive of activity with curiosity at the centre of our worlds from our Bobcats in Pre-School to our Year 8s. The theme of the week has been ‘Stars’ and all children created their own interpretation of a star, for a whole school display in the art room. Thank you to the many parents who came to see the display this week. The Pre-Prep stars will be relocated to the Pre-Prep for parents to see after half-term.
Highlights of the week included the wonderful Year 5 musical, ‘One Small Step’, written by Karen and Ali Braden, directed by Ash Edwards, and performed on Monday and Tuesday evenings. The production tells the story of the Space Race between the USA and the USSR, and had two strong messages at its core. First, the importance of creating a culture where we accept and welcome that mistakes are made, because this is a really good way to learn; second, as the title suggests, the path to success is incremental, as opposed to being achieved overnight.
The musical was followed by concerts on both Wednesday and Thursday evenings with super performances from our choirs, ensembles, soloists, punctuated with some excellent drama pieces. We had performers from Year 4 to Year 8, and for many this was their first opportunity in front of an audience. This afternoon the Year 8s had an excellent ‘graffiti art’ workshop delivered by Old Mole, Auberi Chen, during which they created their own representations of the planets.
Thank you to all the staff for the thought and creativity that goes into delivering such an exciting week, and well done to the children for responding so positively and taking advantage of the opportunities that STEAM week presents. The fun is not over as our Reception class head off to the Natural History Museum in Oxford the day after we return from Half-Term! How exciting is that for a 4 year old?!
We hope your children have a well-deserved break.
