Harvest and Henley
Pre-Prep has just celebrated Harvest Festival at Moulsford Church. It was really special. Every child from Pre School to Year 2 sang "Cauliflowers Fluffy" accompanied by Karen Braden on the church organ. The sun streamed through the stained glass windows as they stood in front of the altar and read poems and showed their related artwork and ideas. They sat respectfully and listened carefully. As teachers, we strive to provide moments of "Awe and Wonder" and this experience really delivered.
Earlier in the week Reception to Y2 went to Henley Literary Festival and heard the charismatic Petr Horacek regale them with tales of his grandmother's love of zebras and elephants, whilst creating beautiful line drawings of bears and birds. He had every child rapt as he read his stories such as A Best Friend for Bear- quite an achievement in a marquee filled with about 300 5,6 and 7 year olds. Your child will have brought home a signed copy of his book Blue Monster.
Taking children out of the classroom can be a challenge for us teachers - organising coaches and drivers, sick bags and first aid kits all requires additional effort, but the outcomes are more than worth it. The children's lives are richer and their eyes more open to the world after a week like this one - please ask them to tell you all about it!
