Boys visit authors at literary event
Boys from the Pre-Prep, Year 6 and Year 8 all visited the Henley Literary Festival this week.
On Tuesday the Tigers and Wildcats heard the authors Rashmi Sirdeshpande and Rikin Parekh talk about their confidence-affirming picture book, Yes You Can, Cow. The author and the illustrator both spoke about the book and how they came up with their ideas. The top tip was to always carry a notebook with you so you can jot down ideas - wherever you are! The Tigers and Wildcats had a lovely time and were super to take out of school.
On Wednesday, it was the turn of Year 6 who saw author Sufiya Ahmed talking about her WWII story, Rosie Raja: Churchill's Spy. The boys had a great time finding out about how and why Sufiya became a writer. The talk fitted perfectly with this term’s topic ‘Spies’ and the boys will use her book as inspiration for their own spy stories.
Panthers, Pumas, Leopards and Lions visited the festival on Thursday to hear award-winning illustrator-author, Steven Lenton, talk about his chapter book, Genie and Teeny: The Wishing Well.
Finally, on Friday, Year 8 heard author Stuart Lawrence - brother to Stephen - talk about his new book, Silence is Not an Option. Stuart’s talk was full of wonderful, positive advice, and was extremely well received by our Year 8’s. A powerful and important morning concluded with the boys meeting Stuart and receiving a signed copy of his book.
We are very lucky to have such a great literary event on our doorstep and hope to visit again next year.
