Travelling back in time

The pupils in Year 4, complete with gas mask boxes and ID labels, wished their families tearful farewells as they were evacuated from Moulsford on Thursday morning. Their destination was Swindon’s STEAM Museum where they spent the day learning about what life was like in Britain during WW2. They experienced what it would have been like to take cover in a Public Shelter during an Air Raid, they learned how the war changed the world of work for women forever and they found out how it would have felt to be chosen by strangers on a railway platform. This year, we were fortunate to have Rob as our guide. Rob was born at the start of the war and he was able to share his memories of rationing as well as wearing his Donald Duck gas mask! The boys were an absolute pleasure to spend the day with and they all learned a huge amount from their experience.
