Relationships, Sex and Health Education (RSHE)
On Tuesday we were visited by Amy Forbes-Robertson from It Happens. She came in to deliver sessions with the boys in Years 5 to 8 on relationships, their private bodies, puberty and digital relationships, which form part of our Relationships, Sex and Health Education (RSHE) curriculum.
Outside speakers play a huge role in RSHE. A different voice, delivering up-to-date and relevant information, in the right way, really can help young people make better choices and so avoid physical and emotional harm. Or at the very least, know how to recognise a problem and get out of a muddle. Amy's mantra is, ‘it happens… so let’s talk about it’.
Amy's sessions were straight-talking, open and honest. She managed to take the awkwardness out of these sensitive topics and the boys seemed very engaged and happy to be able to ask the many questions they have, in a safe space. Some of them may have come home and told you about it and we would encourage conversations like this to happen so that boys feel reassured and comfortable discussing it with trusted adults.
The sessions done by It Happens aim to support and extend the RSHE work the boys are already doing at Moulsford. The sessions will be followed up with future learning in our LFL lessons and Form time.
