Humanities lesson at Forest School
Year 5 took a trip to Forest School on Thursday to take part in a variety of themed events in the woods based on what they have learnt about Celtic lives in their Humanities lessons. The boys participated in a carousel of activities including using signs as clues for their treasure hunt (possibly with some chocolate involved!), made bannock bread, did archery, art, blindfold trails, fire starting and created their own Celtic adventure during free play time. They generally lived like Celts for the day, complete with blue face paint. They even tucked into venison stew for their al fresco lunch! It was a day of learning and fun and even the rain didn’t dampen spirits!
A number of the boys were keen to have the recipe for the bannock bread. We hope they enjoy making it at home too.
Bannock Bread
300g plain flour
2 teaspoons of baking powder
½ teaspoon of sugar
½ teaspoon of salt
3 tablespoons of olive oil
150-200 ml of water
Mix all of the ingredients together and then shape into small patties. Cook for 10-12 mins on a griddle or frying pan or alternatively wrap the dough around a stick and cook over an open fire.
