1morechild

At the end of last term, Moulsford took part in two book charity initiatives.  The first, in aid of the charity 1morechild, was organised by Katie Harrison, Mum to Gus in 3S.  The charity supports 280 ex-street children in Uganda, 50% of whom are orphans.

Through initiatives like the Book Fair, Moulsford is in the fortunate position of buying new Library books each year and so we were able to send 15Kg of old library books and leftover book swap books out to Uganda in December. There are now four bookshelves, which has doubled in the two years since Katie started helping with the charity. The children using them are aged 6-17 and English is a 3rd, 4th or 5th language.  Katie has been to visit the charity and said that their work is incredible and the donated books are valued enormously.

Read for Good

The final day of our very successful Travelling Book Fair coincided with a report on the BBC Children in Need programme which featured the Read for Good charity.  Having earnt £1250 in book credit from Scholastic, our Librarian Mrs Hibbert came up with the idea to donate 10% to the charity Read for Good to enable sick children to receive a book at their bedside. Mrs Hibbert chose around 15 books including the popular Tom Gates and David Walliams novels, which arrived at their headquarters just before Christmas.

Read for Good provides a regular supply of brand new books along with storyteller visits to brighten up the days of children in all of the UK’s main children’s hospitals.  Children unable to leave their beds can choose books from their specially designed mobile bookcase which wheels right up to their bedside. Because they are brand new, the books are safe for those at high risk of infection.

Moulsford has been delighted to support both of these incredible charities.
