A mathematically challenging week
UKMT Team Maths Challenge
Four of our talented Scholars took part in this regional final, competing against 36 other schools from the area, most of whom had teams of 2 Year 8 and 2 Year 9 pupils. The boys were faced with some pretty challenging maths, but in a fun and collaborative environment, and they all enjoyed the day. Considering that the other schools were larger and had older pupils, I was very proud of our placing in the top half of the schools, so well done boys.
Inter-House Maths Challenge
This hotly-contested challenge was run over two different sessions. Firstly, one boy from each of Year 3 to Year 8 in each house took part in paired and group activities including ‘cross numbers’, where all the clues were interdependent and a rapid relay race of maths questions. Then the rest of the Prep School piled into the theatre to support their teams in the buzzer rounds. This included a staff round, where non-maths teachers were put through their paces, and showed themselves to be pretty competent mathematicians! In the end Cabot were victorious, but the outcome was remarkably close. Well done to all those involved, especially the staff who were brave enough to volunteer!
