Celt and Roman Culture
For the last three lessons in Humanities, Year 5 have been having great fun with a practical carousel of activities.
The boys took part in a variety of activities centred around Early British Settlements. They learnt about Celt and Roman culture, with a focus on their respective Gods and even engaged in some Celtic face-painting. They looked at how Roman legionnaires undertook sieges with rams, catapults, mining and at the strategies that were employed, whilst building Ballistas. The Year 4 DT catapults were borrowed to test out their castle’s strength!
The boys also looked into how, where and why Roman roads were built in Britain, creating their own model section of a Roman road. They also used their iPads and mapping apps to locate Roman towns and roads so that they could draw an original road map of Roman Britain.
Overall a great deal of fun and learning was had by all.
