A cultural day out
On Thursday, all the Year 7 boys travelled to London to the Royal Festival Hall to enjoy a Gamelan percussion workshop using genuine Indonesian instruments. This trip forms the culmination of a project studying the indigenous music of Indonesia, which is very percussive and is played mostly on metalophones. The workshop was given by the Head of the Gamelan Department at the Southbank who is a very talented Gamelan player and teacher. This year’s group managed to produce a very authentic sound and they thoroughly enjoyed playing all the different instruments. Check our Twitter feed to hear a mini clip.
The other half of the day was spent strolling along the South Bank, taking in the colourful sights and sounds of this very vibrant part of London, ending up at the Tate Modern Gallery where the boys were free to enjoy everything it has to offer. The whole day proved to be both culturally beneficial and great fun. An added bonus? We saw Boris Johnson on his bike!
