A Magical Day Out / Imagine That!
The boys in Year 4 could hardly contain their excitement on Monday as they travelled to the Harry Potter Studios in Leavesden. Our English topic this term is ‘Creating Imaginary Worlds’ and the trip certainly inspired the boys to use their imaginations. It gave them a fantastic insight into the world of set design and film production and they learnt how the impossible can be made possible by the use of a ‘green screen’. We had a behind the scenes tour of the costume department and we learnt how costumes can enhance our understanding of a character. The boys used offcuts of fabrics from the film to make ‘mood boards’ for their own characters.
The highlight of the trip for many boys was a ‘green screen’ trip on the Hogwarts Express. They loved trying to catch the escaping chocolate frogs, and the ‘Dementors’ made even the teachers scream when they surrounded the train! The final room contained a model of Hogwarts Castle that took our breath away and one member of staff even shed a few tears!
