Art project to create a watery scene
On Thursday, we bundled 18 excited and very chatty boys into two minibuses and, having done our daily Phonics session, we headed for Henley. When we arrived at the River and Rowing Museum we were introduced to a lovely lady called Camilla who was working with us for the morning.
We went into one of the museum’s school rooms which was all set out with paints, brushes and paper. Camilla explained to the boys about the different ways of painting a water scene and showed some examples of famous artists and their varying styles. She then talked the boys through creating their own layered picture using different brush strokes and techniques. They mixed their own range of colours from a pallet of primary colours that were provided and their final task was to add areas of light to their pictures by using either white or yellow. All of the boys really enjoyed this and we have some beautiful pieces of work to put up on our class board for a display.
To round the morning off, we went up into the museum and the boys drew a boat from observation. This can then be added to our water scenes to create a final picture.
