I am absolutely delighted with our announcement that Moulsford is to become co-educational, admitting Year 3 girls from 2026.
As a father of a daughter and two sons, who have attended both single sex and co-educational schools, I have seen the benefits of both from a parental view. And as a Headmaster of a co-ed school for 7 years and a single-sex school for 10 years, I have also seen the value of each from a professional viewpoint.
As you will know, there have been copious amounts written about single sex and mixed education and there are strong advocates for both. For me though, it has always been about running the best school and offering the best education for my pupils, irrespective of the structure. And whilst Moulsford has served boys so well for the last 6 decades, it is my role - along with the Board of Governors - to ensure that the next generation of pupils receives the best education.
We feel that this will be boys and girls working and playing together side by side; both girls and boys benefitting not only from the fantastic education and pastoral care we offer at Moulsford, but also from our wonderful setting. I truly believe that a successful and vibrant co-educational Moulsford community will enrich the lives and broaden the horizons of all its pupils.
I recognise that this will be a big adjustment for those current parents who have only known the school through their boys, and I want to assure you we will be doing everything we can to make this an incredibly smooth transition for the whole Moulsford community… as well as an exciting one!
So please do read the Q&A for more detail… or join me in one of my webinars (dates and times to be confirmed) … or I’d be very happy to talk with you directly if you want to get in touch.
What a fabulous and action-packed final day of this half-term we have had. Our ‘Bobcat’ Pre-Schoolers have been at Beale Park, Year 5 have enjoyed a Humanities day in Wallingford and Forest School, the whole school (including Pre-Prep) were treated to a delicious outdoor lunch of paella, and Year 6 performed an outstanding open air Greek play, which was such fun (loved the colander helmets!). A very large thank you to Rory Johnston, our Head of Latin, who wrote and directed this wonderful production.
I hope you and your families have a lovely Half Term!
