Assembly for the South Africa rugby tourists
On Friday we welcomed Ingrid Lestrade from Inspire Children and Youth, the charity being supported by the 2024 South Africa rugby tour. Ingrid spoke to the boys in Years 7 and 8 about the work that the charity does and how the money raised by the Moulsford community is spent.
Inspire is based at Middlepos Farm near Malmesbury in South Africa. It nurtures dreams, inspires rural people to achieve, and creates safe spaces for children and young people to thrive, providing food, shelter, toilets and a range of activities and projects for rural farm children and their families.
Ingrid gave the boys a presentation that showed the history of Middlepos and the recent building work that has been undertaken, some of which has been achieved through Moulsford’s fundraising. Ingrid introduced them to some of the children based on the farm and discussed the role that Judo plays in their development. She also talked to them about the products that are made on the farm and then sold to help with the running of the farm.
Ingrid described some of the jobs that the boys will get involved with when they visit next April, including picking olives, helping the children and adults form letters to learn to write, making signage for the farm and of course playing some fun rugby matches. She also told them that they love to dance on the farm so the boys (and staff) need to practise their dance moves!
Old Moles and current Junior Teaching Assistants Henry Stone and Tom Batchelor then talked about their memories from the tours which they were on in 2018 and 2012 respectively, and how the visit to the farm is the memory they both cherish the most. They described the resilience and spirit of the children and the vital support that the boys can offer through their fundraising.
Ingrid finished the Assembly by presenting Mr Springer with a bottle of the olive oil produced on the farm. We are looking forward to tasting it!
