It’s been such an exciting day at Moulsford as we have looked forward to the next academic year with ‘Move-Up Day’. We have loved welcoming our new starters and their parents to the Moulsford community, and it has been wonderful to watch new friendships forming. Year 7 have spent a day in glorious sunshine at Forest School with their Form Tutors for next year, and Year 8 have had an inspirational ‘Beatbox’ workshop in the theatre. Years 2 to 6 have been enjoying the Oxford Playhouse’s touring performance of ‘Mind the Monsters’ too.
One transition of particular importance is Year 2’s move from the Pre-Prep site to the Prep school, and we have given this very careful thought to ensure that this will be as smooth as possible for the boys in September. This journey starts as soon as boys join the Pre-Prep, but gears up as they progress through Year 2. For example, a number of the Year 1 and 2 afternoon activities (Parkour, Tennis and Golf) take place on the Prep site, and both these year groups have experienced a Science lesson this term with our legendary Head of Science, Mr. English. We loved welcoming all the Pre-Prep children for a whole school BBQ and the school photo before half-term, and Pre-Prep Prize Giving and Sports Day will take place in the Sports Hall and the playing fields directly in front of the school respectively. This is always such a special day and we are so looking forward to welcoming parents for these two wonderful events.
The Year 3 team have got to know the Year 2 boys really well over the year, and all opportunities for the boys to experience life on the Prep school site have been taken. Year 2 Cookery Club, run by Sally Noble and Emily Avery, has been a great hit, as was the super Scavenger Hunt organised for the boys. Year 2 have also been enjoying their ICT and Art classes in the Prep school this year. It hasn’t all been one way traffic, and the Year 3 team (and I!) have thoroughly enjoyed our lunches in the Pre-Prep, and seeing the boys in class.
We are delighted to announce that Moulsford is the Winner of the ‘Inventive Sports Programme’ category in the 2023 Muddy Stilettos Awards, winning through in a field of roughly one hundred schools. The ethos of the Awards is described by the editor, Hero Brown, as being “all about celebrating and supporting the best in modern and progressive education.” The judging panel for the sports category included Patrick Derham OBE, ex Headmaster at Westminster School, Mark Semmence, Headmaster at Repton, Tove Okunniwa MBE, CEO of London Sport and Toby Garbett an Olympic and World Champion gold medal rower.
We are particularly pleased with this result as we have worked very hard over the past nine years to ensure that Moulsford’s Sports programme is inclusive, varied and of the highest quality for all pupils in the school. Many congratulations to James Springer, our Director of Sport, and the Moulsford sports staff who have worked so hard and thoroughly deserve this recognition.
