Mind the Monsters

Last week Moulsford hosted the Oxford Playhouse touring tent ‘Playhouse Plays Out’. The tent travels around Oxfordshire during the summer with the aim of bringing theatre to more communities. The pupils in Years 2 to 6 had the opportunity to enjoy the show on Friday during ‘Move Up Day’ and then the tent was opened on Saturday for two performances to provide a free theatre experience to local schools and the wider community.

This year’s fun-filled and interactive show ‘Mind the Monsters’, was aimed at 4 to 11 year olds and was written to accessibly navigate conversations around emotions and mental health with children. At the start of the show, we met Joy and Hope, Planet Brain’s weather-watching mind-mappers. We joined them and their friends - The Overthinking Octopus, Perfect Pixie, The Aware-Wolf and others - on an interactive adventure around the brain. They had to complete their monster training to help them ward off worries from the Head Goblin and keep their heads happy and healthy.

Alice Jessop, Participation & Learning Officer at Oxford Playhouse said, “Oxford Playhouse was resident at Moulsford School for two full days, and our cast and crew received the warmest and most attentive welcome by both staff and pupils. We were very pleased to be working with the school to open up the beautiful grounds to children and families from surrounding villages, whilst providing free theatre performances of our new touring production ‘Mind the Monsters’. A huge thank you to Moulsford for helping to create such a friendly and accommodating experience for us and our audiences."

It was a delight for Moulsford to host Oxford Playhouse’s touring production. Working in partnership with them has provided the perfect opportunity to bring theatre to a wider audience and open our doors to the local community.
