We have had a wonderful Arts Week, with so much going on at the school. At the beginning of the week, Year 5 gave us two excellent productions of the musical ‘Honk’, which were followed by super musical soirees on Wednesday and Thursday evening, courtesy of Mrs. Braden (Moulsford’s new Director of Music), and a fabulous Pop Vocals concert on Friday afternoon. Well done to all the 120 boys involved, who all gained so much from the opportunity to perform in front of an audience.
We really enjoyed welcoming Old Mole, Auberi Chen, back to the school this week. Auberi, who left Moulsford in 2006, is a graffiti artist and has worked closely with some Year 7 and 8 boys this week, producing house murals. Parents may have seen works in progress or the end results when visiting the marquee this week, either for a very welcome match tea, or to view the fabulous ‘bird themed’ art exhibition which all boys in the school have contributed to. The success of Arts Week is down to the enthusiasm and buy in of the boys, the support of parents and a lot of planning and work behind the scenes from many staff. Particular thanks to Mrs. Cummings (Head of Art), Mr. Edwards (Head of Drama), Mrs. Lunnon (Pop Vocals) and Mrs. Braden.
A hugely successful football season has come to a close for boys in Years 5 to 8. In total, there have been 141 football fixtures, with the games department working very hard to ensure that all boys get regular opportunities to play team sport and represent the school. The spin-off benefits of this are huge. As a result, we believe that every available boy (i.e. those not off-games) has played in at least five football fixtures this half of term.
A new initiative has been the creation of the Team of the Week. All the coaches are able to nominate a star player from their recent match to represent this virtual team, which is then displayed for all to see in the dining hall. This complements the Lionhearts, which are awarded at assemblies to boys from any team who have shown particular effort, determination and teamwork in their recent fixtures. After half-term, Years 5 to 8 move on to rugby, which Years 3 and 4 have been playing so successfully since September. We wish good luck to our two U13 football teams whose season continues as they both qualified for the IAPS National Tournament in Norfolk in November, having come 1st and 3rd in the regional tournament held earlier this month.
This first half of term has ended with French Language Day, and we were all treated to a delicious first course of Boeuf Bourguignon. I joined the Pre-Prep for lunch today, and it’s safe to say that young children instantly understand the importance of French when an éclair is presented to them for pudding. We hope your children have a wonderful and restful half-term break.
