The United Kingdom will host the 26th UN Climate Change Conference of the Parties (COP26) in Glasgow from 31 October – 12 November 2021, in conjunction with Italy. Next week also sees the launch of Moulsford’s Sustainability Policy, designed to tie in and highlight many of the issues of COP26.
The week will start with an extended assembly on Monday highlighting the importance of our new school policy and the actions that every member of the school - boys, staff, parents and governors - can take to help Moulsford in its aim to become more sustainable. The goal is to make living more sustainably an intrinsic part of our school ethos, so we become an institution where all members of the community are properly educated about this key issue and aware of the part they play in safeguarding and protecting the future of our planet. There will be a similar launch for parents after the half term break as we realise that the success of our policy relies on the support of our whole community.
On both Monday and Tuesday next week, 'Green Up Your Act' will be running hour long workshops with all boys from Year 3 to Year 8. The older boys will be taught about sustainable buildings and will be making items out of old maps, while the younger year groups will be looking at sustainable food sources and creating micro green gardens. By the end of the workshop, all the boys will have an item to take home with them to remind them of their commitment to saving our planet.
A very large thank you to Jess Roberts and Molly Symonds who are driving the Moulsford Sustainability project.
Thank you also to today’s children who often show us adults the way forward on this crucial issue which is common to us all. Please click here for a link to an article I recently wrote for Muddy Stilettos about Moulsford’s approach to sustainability.
