Launch of a new initiative

This week has seen the launch of a 'lunchtime talks' initiative from Mr Weeks aimed at boys in Years 7 and 8. The aim behind the talks has been to give the boys an opportunity to listen to speakers from different career paths. It is entirely voluntary as to whether the boys attend but we have had around 30 attend each talk this week which has been very encouraging to see.

The two talks we have had this week are as follows:

  • David Boyd who currently works in the cyber-security industry. David wowed the boys when he told them about the value of the cyber-crime economy and they also enjoyed listening to the fact that he had planned an entirely different career path to the one he has now ended up in!
  • Matt Rogan (pictured) who works in the Sports Business Industry. Matt told the boys how luck has played an important part in his career with a cleverly placed book about sport enabling his career to go off in another direction. He also emphasised the importance of the following non-negotiables to have in life: intrinsic motivation, drive and emotional intelligence.

Next week's talk is on Tuesday and will be taken by Dr Chris Whittier who will join us via zoom from Africa. Further details on Chris are in the Week Ahead.

If any parents would be prepared to speak to the boys in Year 7 and 8 about their career to date then please get in touch with Mr Weeks ([email protected]) and he will liaise with you.
