Fun for Years 3 to 6

Despite some last minute changes due to ongoing Covid-19 restrictions, the boys in Years 3 to 6 have had an action-packed and fun week of activities with the theme of Sustainability.

Year 3’s week has involved upcycling t-shirts into tie-dyed bags, creating pollinating plant pots and designing an advertising campaign to promote sustainability at Moulsford. On Wednesday they cruised down the river on kayaks and produced their own lunch of sandwiches and rocky road cookies. This was followed by a nature walk along the river. On Thursday the boys visited the Earth Trust, where they built fires, made dens and investigated the biodiversity of the British countryside. The week culminated in the annual 'Its a KnockOut' and fun was had by all.

Year 4 have participated in a pottery workshop from a visiting potter, acted a short bit of Shakespeare and photographed, researched and drawn flowers. On Tuesday the boys had a talk about Young Climate Warriors from Mrs Judge before enjoying a lovely day paddling up and down the River Thames with a BBQ in a beautiful garden near Wallingford. On Thursday they too visited the Earth Trust where they built dens, went bug hunting and started camp fires with flints. On Friday it was It's a KnockOut games followed by storytime and a cooling swim in the pool to finish off the week.

On Monday and Tuesday, the Year 4 boys also all had the opportunity to experience an overnight stay in the Boarding House. Much fun and excitement was had by all. The boys sampled something similar to a boarder's evening routine, with a wide variety of activities on offer, and even some marshmallow roasting as a special treat. It was a fantastic and valuable 'away from home' experience, as well as giving the boys an insight into boarding life. Well done to the Year 4 boys for being excellent guests!

What a week Year 5 have had! Monday and Tuesday involved a pottery tutorial, the ‘Moulsford Olympics’ and Recycling Art Attack, with the boys demonstrating fantastic teamwork and creativity in all the tasks. On Wednesday they walked to Streatley and then conquered the beast that is Streatley Hill. After lunch and a game of Rounders they headed back to school on the Ridgeway Path, before a short ‘ferry ride’ across the river with Mr Corbett skippering the safety boat. Thursday and Friday were spent at the brilliant ‘Oxford Boat Adventure’ taking in all the activities that the lake and surrounding farm had to offer.

Year 6 started their week at the Oxford Boat Adventure with activities ranging from Monster SUPs, canoeing, kayaking and concealment challenges through to making their own pizzas in the outdoor pizza oven and building rafts. Back at school at the end of the week but the fun continued! An Olympics with a twist and some dampers bread over the fire pit were just two of the activities before the boys set up camp for the night on the front field. There were a few interesting techniques for putting up the tents but they got there in the end!

It was a brilliant week for all of the boys and lovely to reward them for their hard work over the last year.
