Head's Blog: The start of a new term

Head's Blog

It has been excellent to welcome all the boys returning to school this week, and warm greetings to those boys and families starting at Moulsford for the first time.  We have been so impressed by how everyone has got back into the swing of school life after such a long break away – staff included! There have been many adjustments made to daily life, although we have endeavoured to keep routines as normal as we can for the boys.

Community is at the heart of Moulsford, and we are constantly looking for ways to reinforce this during these unusual times. At the beginning of every school term, we have a fire alarm practice and this took place on Thursday. This involved everyone gathering outside in their class groups (in front of the marquee), when the alarm sounded. Once we were all assembled, it dawned on me that this was the first time since March that the whole school and staff had been gathered together in one place, and I took the opportunity to congratulate the boys on the really positive start they had made to the year.

We also collectively said a very Happy Birthday to our catering manager, Julie Windebank. No-one embodies the Moulsford community better than Julie, who celebrated not only her birthday on Thursday, but 30 years of working at the school in April - a milestone we weren’t able to properly mark. Keeping the boys properly fed in a socially distanced school has presented great logistical challenges and Julie and her team have done an amazing job adjusting to the new routines this week. Thank you both to them and to the boys who have shown great patience as we have tinkered with the catering logistics this week to try and get things right.

One other area we know we need to address is afternoon pick-up, to ease the pressure on the car park. Please could we request that parents place an A4 poster in their windscreen to be on display as they enter the school drive, giving their son's name(s) and year group. We are trialling a new system from Monday.

Many apologies for the delay in sending the Weekly Roundup out.  We were all set to go yesterday as usual, but had a technical hitch with the Flickr photo albums not updating automatically as normal. As we have not been able to resolve this yet, for a short term solution, if you would like to see photos taken this week of the first day back, Year 4 swimming and senior games, please click here which will take you direct to our our Flickr albums page.
