Moulsford wins medals at athletics championships
The IAPS National Athletics Championships took place at the end of last term, held at Birmingham’s Alexander Stadium. The boys had already achieved a huge amount by qualifying for the finals through regional competitions held earlier in the term.
Rory W ran in the Year 6 800m, running a year young having pipped tough opposition in the qualifying rounds. A great effort already to make the finals and valuable experience to take into next year’s athletics season.
Woody H-H qualified in both the high jump and hurdles, where he did fantastically to make the final. Woody brought home the school’s first medal of the day winning bronze in the hurdles. Barnaby H and Sam W progressed through their heats well in the 100m and 200m respectively, both getting extremely close to the medals in the finals.
The day culminated with the relays, where Moulsford fielded a strong Year 7 side with Theo P, Sam W, Will C and Barnaby H. They made it through the heats with the 4th quickest time which itself was a huge accomplishment. They then bettered this in the final with slick change overs and fast legs, finishing in 3rd and claiming bronze. An amazing achievement.
Having six boys representing Moulsford at the National IAPS Athletics is a new record for the school, so to also bring home medals is something the whole school is very proud of. Well done to all the boys who competed.
A special mention has to go to a few Moulsford mums, who will remain nameless, but showed exactly why our parents are superheroes! Not only did they assume the roles of coach, physio, nutritionist, cheerleader and fan club co-ordinator. They also made the whole day possible by sorting out the logistics and ensuring the boys could not only compete at the Nationals but also not miss out on activities week with their peers by driving boys straight to Snowdonia and one to London to catch the train to France. A huge thank you Moulsford mums, a true gold medal performance!
