Sports Fixtures Aplenty
Over the last week we have witnessed an extraordinary amount of sport played at Moulsford, with every pupil in Years 3 to 8 representing the school, including those signed off contact sport. The sheer volume of fixtures was impressive, and the competitive spirit was evident across all age groups.
Wonderful Wednesday truly lived up to its name, with a remarkable five different sports being played—perhaps a school record! Seven rugby teams travelled to Ludgrove and we hosted six fiercely contested matches at home, producing some outstanding performances. Meanwhile, our U11 boys took to the hockey pitch against The Dragon, allowing eight players the opportunity to experience the sport ahead of the Spring season, with some fantastic goals scored on the astro.
The excitement didn’t stop there, as our Spring Term FC continued their winning streak against Oratory Prep, demonstrating their strong form. Adding to the variety, our racket sports teams were in action away at Summer Fields, with fixtures in table tennis, badminton, and squash—a first for Moulsford in this format, and a hugely successful trial.
The younger age groups also had their moment to shine, with our U8 and U9 boys playing their second round of football fixtures against Abingdon Prep. The results were excellent, and the high standard of football was evident in every match.
We saw fantastic performances from our Cross Country teams at St Andrews and The Oratory, with plenty of successes and podium finishes from boys in Years 3 to 6. Cross Country is as much about teamwork as individual effort, with team scores determined by the top four finishes. Our Under 9 boys secured an impressive 2nd place overall out of seven schools, the Under 13 boys finished 3rd, and our Under 11s claimed victory, highlighted by a brilliant 1st and 2nd place finish for Oliver B and Lucas R. On Saturday, our runners in Years 1 to 6 competed at The Oratory MECE event, delivering strong performances with podium finishes across every age group. A particular highlight was watching the Year 1s take on the opening race, with special recognition for Rory S and Maya C for their fantastic efforts. Photos from the events are available on the school’s social media and the Moulsford Flickr albums. We now turn our focus to the county championships on March 1st, aiming to retain our county cup—full details can be found on SOCS.
Unfortunately, the weather brought an early end to our U12 County Cup campaign, with the tournament postponed after a winning start against Bloxham. A rescheduled date will be announced soon, and updates will be provided on SOCS as soon as details are confirmed.
A huge thank you to all the Moulsford staff for their tireless efforts in ensuring our boys have the opportunity to compete, represent their school, and enjoy their sport. This week was a fantastic showcase of Moulsford’s sporting strength, and we look forward to more success in the weeks ahead!
