House Singing Makes a Triumphant Return to Moulsford
After a break of over 5 years, House music returned to Moulsford with the inaugural ‘House Shout’. Heads of Houses and pupils made their final song decisions on Friday and met on Monday afternoon to practise singing their song and to plan and rehearse any choreography or moves they wished to add, before performing for the judges, Mr Wilder the Bursar and Mrs Harley the Headmaster’s PA.
Using a random name generator, it put Amundsen up first with their energetic rendition of ‘Song 2’ by Blur, complete with Joss B on drums, Teddy C conducting the dance moves and some marvellous air guitar playing from Wilfie W and the rest of the younger pupils.
Next up was Drake who went for a modern version of the classic John Denver hit ‘Take Me Home, Country Roads’ where cowboy hats, bandanas and the odd pair of cowboy boots were worn with pride as they combined excellent singing and line dancing.
Cabot were called up next with a Top Gun classic, ‘Danger Zone’ by Kenny Loggins. Staff members played the role of air traffic controllers (using table tennis bats and ear defenders) as some of the boys flew in on their jets. The choreography was extremely professional and the boys sung enthusiastically from behind their aviators.
Last but certainly not least were the Bering Blues who performed a humorous mashup of the Queen hit ‘Don’t Stop Me Now’ and ‘I’m Still Standing’ by Elton John with Xander MC and Sam A playing the roles of the two rival frontmen with confidence and pizazz, ably backed up by the rest of the House.
All four performances were fantastic and House spirit was extremely high but the Judges were unanimous in their decision and this year’s House Shout winners were Cabot! Congratulations to them and thank you to Mrs Braden, the Heads of Houses and everyone involved for their efforts on the day.
