It has been another unusual start to the year, with rising Covid numbers in the school over the past week. The lead item in the Week Ahead gives the details of the number of cases in each year group, and we do hope that those boys and families affected are feeling ok and make a swift recovery. There were 47 boys off school today, not all because of Covid, but the very significant majority due to illness of some description.
Not surprisingly, there are also a number of the staff who have also tested positive and are off school for a period of time. Those of you who have had Covid may be aware that recovery to full fitness can take a number of weeks, especially for adults. This is certainly the case with some of our staff, who have found that the transition back to full time teaching in the classroom immediately after their period of isolation is not straightforward.
Thank you again to parents for all the support and understanding you have continued to show for the school. The next two weeks are likely to be reasonably challenging, and there will be a number of lessons which are either taught remotely or by cover teachers. Because there is so much staff ‘movement’ at present, we won’t update you on all the details, but if there are any significant developments which affect a class or year group, we will be in touch.
On a more positive note, it was so good to hold the rugby House Matches for Years 5 to 8 on Wednesday on a perfect, crisp and sunny January day. I am so glad that many parents were able to join us and witness competitive rugby, together with excellent sportsmanship and support the boys showed for each other. It is hard to say who enjoyed it most – boys, staff or parents! After so many short, dark, winter days, it was certainly a day to appreciate.
