Creative Cross-Curricular Projects

The Year 7 boys have been busy this week presenting their Dragon’s Den projects to a panel of scary Dragons!  Working in pairs, the boys were challenged with inventing and marketing a new product, idea or invention. The presentations this week were the culmination of a lot of hard work and effort. Unlike previous years when the whole group presented their ideas in the theatre, this time the boys had to present in their form groups and then their presentations were live streamed to the rest of the year group, who were watching in the marquee. Mr Edwards did a fantastic job of filming and the boys and Dragons quickly got the hang of using their hand-held mics.

As part of our aim to tie in subjects across the curriculum, the work was carried out in their ICT, Design Technology, Drama and Art lessons and in each discipline a different aspect of the project was pursued.

• In ICT they carried out Market Research and created a website to market their product. They have also handled the finances of their company using spreadsheets, written and prepared their presentation.

• In Design Technology they created a ‘design board’, promotional gifts or in some instances a prototype of their invention.

• In Art and Drama they created a short promotional advert, filming and editing their work in iMovie.

The boys have worked incredibly hard throughout the process and they all confidently pitched to the panel of 'Dragons' who threw some tough questioning their way!  There were many investments made, and some concepts that the boys think they might like to produce in real life.  This year was heavily influenced by the current global pandemic so products to help with cleanliness, sanitising, mindfulness and cooking featured, alongside favourites like sporting inventions and some great ideas for new tech.

Our thanks go to the staff who played the role of ‘Dragons’, giving up their valuable time and playing such an important part in the process.  Well done to the boys for all of their hard work.
