We were delighted to receive the news this week that Joss G and Henry C have been awarded an Art Scholarship and Drama Exhibition respectively to Radley. Many congratulations to both boys.
Excitement is beginning to mount in Year 7 with boys gearing up for their production of “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat” which will run for four nights at the end of term. As with previous Year 7 plays, Ash Edwards (the Director and Head of Drama) is very keen that first, all boys are fully involved in the production, and second that the significant parts are fairly shared out. To achieve this, the major characters have been double-cast to allow twice as many boys the opportunities to play them, with boys operating on a two nights on/two nights off basis, and joining the chorus on their ‘off’ nights.
Joseph offers wonderful opportunities for whole cast involvement, through the chorus and general group acting and singing. This production is a joint venture with the music department and the boys are thoroughly enjoying rehearsing the excellent soundtrack, which is a joy to teach. I myself acted in Joseph at Prep School and have very fond memories of the experience. I will be watching Cow 6 with interest to see how he compares with my 1980 interpretation of the same.
Henry C’s Drama Exhibition to Radley came on the back of his performance as Sherlock Holmes in Year 7’s 2018 play. Henry was one of three Sherlocks in this production! The school is extremely keen to promote and support drama, and we are very pleased to be supporting Kit S (another Year 7 boy) who is currently acting in the RSC’s touring production of Roald Dahl’s Matilda the Musical. Hats off to Kit in balancing his very demanding acting schedule with his schoolwork.
I felt rather lonely on the zebra crossing this morning and look forward to your boys returning on Monday.Have a lovely weekend in the snow.
