A Mini Medic Lesson
On Thursday morning, the school were treated to a 'Mini Medic' lesson by 4S for their class assembly. This was 'First Aid Assembly - Part 2', as 4Sc did an excellent job of educating us during their assembly before half term. The boys in 4S have been learning many aspects of First Aid during their Learning for Life (LFL) lessons with our School Matron, Mrs Gipson. They decided that these lessons were too good not to share and they asked if they could pass on their newly acquired knowledge with the rest of the school.
During Assembly the boys explained very clearly how to perform CPR and why someone's airway may become blocked. They also demonstrated exactly what should be done when someone is choking and they used a 'choking simulator' to show how obstructions can be dislodged. The simulator was great fun to use, as foam pellets could be 'fired' several metres when abdominal thrusts were performed correctly! They also explained what happens during an asthma attack and the correct steps to take if this happens to a friend.
All the boys spoke very well and the assembly was both entertaining and informative. Well done 4S!
