A visit from the History Man

The Year 3 boys were fortunate to receive a visit from the ‘History Man’ on Friday, with the day spent delving into all things Viking! The morning began with the boys exploring maps and discovering where these famous warriors descended from. They were exposed to the types of clothing the Vikings wore, as well as the various weapons with which they did their deadly business. The boys seemed to particularly enjoy this aspect of the day!  Team working skills were then put to the test as they built a Viking bed and tested out how comfy it was.

In the afternoon the boys created clay Viking coins as souvenirs and were able to play the popular Viking board game Hnefatafl. There was also an exciting tug of war which the boys really loved!  The day culminated in the much-anticipated Year 3 Viking battle, where the boys were able to put their own Viking shields, created in Art lessons this term, to the test. The day was a resounding success and really helped the boys to understand more about such a significant period of history.
