Sam C creates an exceptional DT Project

A Headmaster’s Commendation is given to boys who complete a piece of work to a particularly high standard or who have gone above and beyond what is expected of them.   The boy will receive a Gold Commendation Certificate and be given an opportunity to explain their achievement to Mr Beardmore-Gray.  They generally take home their commendation to show to their parents, which is then awarded to them in front of the school at assembly.

This term, the Year 6 boys were given a DT Project to create a stand for a phone or tablet using one piece of heat-formed acrylic plastic sheet -the maximum dimensions available to use were 20cm x 20cm. The brief stated that the stand must allow access to the volume buttons and the charging hole, so that both could be adjusted without removing the phone or tablet from its holder. It also stated that the phone/tablet should be able to be held in the landscape or portrait position as required.

Sam C addressed all of these specifications really well, to create a user friendly stand for an iPhone. He also went a step further and recreated his idea using the 3D printer, so that he could compare the functionality and quality of the two.   Miss Roberts therefore awarded Sam a Headmaster’s Commendation, saying “all boys did a great job during this project but I felt that Sam's was quite an exceptional design, and he worked very independently on it.”
