Mr Bissell’s last service
December 1999 saw my first ever Carol Service at the Falklands Memorial Chapel at Pangbourne College. The Chapel was brand new, and we were the first school to be invited to use the building for this purpose, after Pangbourne College themselves. I, too, was 'brand new' to the world of Prep School Carol Services, and this magnificent building has been the home of the Moulsford Carol Services ever since. The last 23 years have seen a succession of Moulsford boys play in the Orchestra and sing in the Choir. There have also been many memorable solos and duets. A large number of these boys have returned as 'Old Boys', to give us the benefit of their advanced musical skills, after having continued their musical studies at their senior schools. This has always been a very special part of what has now become a part of the Moulsford tradition.
The Moulsford Carol Service is always a very special event, and this year was no exception. The Choir, led by Head Chorister Bertie W, acquitted themselves admirably, Bertie himself giving the traditional 'Once in Royal' opening solo. The Orchestra, led by James D, accompanied the carols with great aplomb. There were solos from Alex K, Billy V and also from Lachlan M, who was joined in the Benedictus, by Karl Jenkins, by a haunting cello solo from Leonardo M.
It only remains for me to thank all of the boys and staff who have helped to create so many very special memories over the last 23 years. However, I have to mention a few colleagues who helped to make this year's final offering one of the best; Gaby Clements, Carl Bache, Jenny Hill, Jude Watts, Nigel Firth, Jamie Mead and Clare Gould. I shall cherish the memories always. Merry Christmas to you all!
