A day of challenges and team building
On Friday, four boys from 8G took part in the Leadership Conference at the Oratory Prep School. There were about ten schools present and the boys spent the day working in various groups, completing a range of challenges and team building exercises.
The day began with the pupils looking at the characteristics they think are important in a good leader. These were discussed and then they were treated to an excellent short talk from a member of the senior team working for Walkers Crisps. He talked to them about the issues surrounding recycling crisp packets and the decisions that have been made by the leaders at Walkers on this issue.
The afternoon saw the boys working in groups of eight. They were set the challenge of setting up a business from £5; a business that not only makes money but that also helps local communities with recycling and employment. They had a variety of plastics and card to choose from and they had to invent a product and then present it, as well as their business plan, to the whole room. Each product was judged and points awarded for team work. Sadly none of our boys were in the winning team but James B's EcoSpeaker got second place, following a confident pitch from James.
