The History of Everything

Last week Moulsford hosted the Oxford Playhouse Plays Out Pop Up Tent.  The tent, run by The Oxford Playhouse, travels around over the summer bringing theatre to all corners of the county.  Moulsford gave the boys in Years 3-6 the opportunity to enjoy the show on Friday and then opened the tent on Saturday to provide a free theatre experience to the local community.

The show, ‘The History of Everything’ was written for 4-11 year olds and featured two time-travelling tour guides.  The actors took the audience on a silly, surreal and speedy sixty-minute hurtle through history.  From the legends of Rome to the Millennium Dome, Tudors, Trump and Ancient Greece, Persia, war and times of peace, Kings and queens who reigned short and long, Columbus at sea and, in space, Neil Armstrong!  Packed with facts and fit-to-bursting with fun, the show was a mix of storytelling, comedy, music, puppets and more.  The Playhouse team also ran art, craft and drama workshops for the children based around the content of the show.

The show was performed three times each day and on Saturday we had over 200 local children in the tent, along with their families.

Paul Simpson, Learning Co-Ordinator at the Oxford Playhouse said, “Oxford Playhouse was resident at Moulsford School for two full days, and our cast and crew received the warmest and most attentive welcome by both staff and pupils. We were very pleased to be working with the school to open up the beautiful grounds to children and families from surrounding villages, whilst providing free theatre performances in our Playhouse Plays Out Tent of our new touring production of The History of Everything. A huge thank you to Moulsford for helping to create such a friendly and accommodating experience for us and our audiences."
