The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe
The Year 7 play has for many years been the pinnacle of the productions that we offer at Moulsford. As ever, each boy in the year group was given a speaking part in the play which this year was C.S. Lewis' 'The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe’. In the past we have often double-cast plays, (allowing for greater numbers of opportunities among a very talented cohort) but this time with so many capable actors, the plan was to separate the plot into four acts which would each have a group focused on performing that section. To avoid long periods off stage the boys also provided background characters (and even a song!) in the other acts.
There was a fantastic camaraderie between the boys who supported one another on and off stage and even stepped up to filling roles when boys were unable to make performances for illness (particular praise should go to Sam A, Seth C and Lewis H for doing this at very short notice!).
On the staffing front we were delighted to have the support of a whole raft of new and talented set and costume designers. Mr Squire and Ms Beardall have been especially invaluable and my unending thanks to them for all their support!
Beyond this I was also very excited to have Mrs Cummings and Mr McNaughton offer to use their lesson time with Year 7 to help them create headpieces for the boys' Narnian animal characters which would be used through the play. A large number of the props this year were also made by pupils, which allowed for additional learning opportunities.
Huge congratulations to the boys involved. I hope that this has been a great opportunity for them to gain additional acting skills while also bonding further as a Year Group.
