A morning of exploring!
So who were the explorers? What were their characters like? How come we, the British Empire, had so many explorers?
Well, these and other questions were answered and explained and brought to life for Year 3 by David Cadle, an energetic and passionate historian.
We went round America with Columbus, Cortez, Lewis and Clarke; across Africa for Stanley to greet Dr Livingstone; up the Thames with the Vikings and Saxons; racing to the South Pole with Scott, Amundsen and Shackleton; to the North Pole with Benson and Peary, Bird and Bennet and that man Amundsen again in his airship; and then up into space, onto the moon and into space stations.
We passed round and held airplanes, swords, rifles, bison jaw axes, compasses, panpipes, boats, gems, tomatoes, trains, gold, silver coins, helmets, avocadoes, drinking horns, vanilla pods, spacemen and more.
We dressed up as British Captains, Spanish Conquistadors, native Indians, jungle explorers, space men and polar explorers.
What fun for the boys to really live, breathe and behave like explorers and hopefully come away with some nugget of information that they really enjoyed.
