The King’s Speech
On Thursday the whole of Year 7 visited the Watermill Theatre in Newbury to see a production of ‘The King’s Speech’. This new production focuses on the unorthodox relationship between Bertie, the soon-to-be-crowned King George VI, and speech therapist Lionel Logue. As Hitler’s threat on Europe encroaches, Bertie fights his own battle to overcome his speech impediment at the time his country needs him most.
We have been linking the themes in the play to our History and English lessons, such as historical class systems and overcoming difficulties and struggles. Enabling the boys to also have exposure to the performing arts meant this was a real cross-curricular trip.
Staff at the theatre, members of the public and even the lead actor all found Mr Noble at the end of the play to compliment the boys on their behaviour, which was a lovely way to end a great day.
