Inspired by the ‘High Performance Podcast’ series, we have launched the ‘Moulsford High Performance Lunchtimes’ which are a series of interesting and diverse talks aimed at boys in Years 6 to 8. The guest speakers are either directly connected with the school or are friends/colleagues of a member of our school community.
The aim has been to highlight qualities and values which our guests have recognised as being essential in helping their careers develop, rather than specifically talking about their field of expertise. The boys have really enjoyed the opportunity to take time out over lunch to sit and listen to our interesting and diverse speakers, as well as asking questions in conversation with guests towards the end of the sessions. Most of the talks have taken place on Zoom, although some guests have been able to join us in person, and the average attendance is 40 to 50 boys for a session. Thank you to Mr Weeks for driving forward this very exciting new initiative.
Guest speakers so far this term include: David Boyd - Cyber Security; Matt Rogan - Sports Business; Dr Chris Whittier - Vet; Spencer Bull - Ex Military/Disabled athlete; Iain Percy - Olympic Sailor. Still to ‘visit’ in November/December are Claire Vallings - Cabinet Office; Simon Halliday - Ex Sportsman and banker; Antonia Beggs - Fan Participation of major sports events.
The ‘Moulsford High Performance Lunchtimes’ project was picked up by BT Sport Football presenter Jake Humphrey, who hosts the ‘High Performance Podcast’ series. As a result, Mr Weeks was invited to ‘appear’ on the podcast with three of our Year 8 boys, and this was recorded at school last week. The short eight minute piece appears in the current episode at 1 hour 13 minutes after the main guest who is All Black Legend Dan Carter, and can be accessed through this link.
None of this would be possible without the generosity of our Moulsford parents who have liaised with Mr Weeks to provide a truly remarkable list of speakers. We are very keen for this project to continue to evolve, and would be extremely grateful to parents who may like to speak themselves or alternatively who can suggest interesting contacts they may have who would be willing to present to the boys on their life experiences.
