On Tuesday, the Moulsford boys were treated to a very exciting, surprise visit from Spencer Wilding. As well as being the uncle of Max Phillips in Bobcats, Spencer is better known to many as the actor who plays Darth Vader in the latest Star Wars film, Rogue One.
As well as playing one of the most iconic Star Wars characters, Spencer has had a wide variety of roles, mainly as a specialist in creature or monster performances. Spencer talked to the boys about his roles in, amongst others, Guardians of the Galaxy, Game of Thrones, Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, in which he played the Werewolf.
Spencer also talked to the boys about his route to becoming an actor. He talked about his dyslexia, and his career in Kick-Boxing which led to him being crowned British-Welsh Champion, as well as being an undefeated heavyweight boxer. At nearly 6 foot 8 inches, he is a very imposing and athletic man! He had always dreamed of being an actor, and partly as a result of his success in Kick-Boxing, he was encouraged to approach an agent in London which led him to his acting career.
Spencer very kindly offered to return to Moulsford again soon in between film shoots, when he will talk further about his sporting career, how dyslexia has helped shape his life, and his work with the iSpy anti-bullying charity, of which he is patron.
As Darth Vader says in Rogue One “Be careful not to choke on your aspirations.”
