Ancient Egypt in Hampshire!
Highclere Castle was ours to enjoy for a few hours, as part of our Year Three Humanities topic on Ancient Egypt. We all did 3 activities: a walk outside in the Spring sunshine, past the cedars of Lebanon, to the walled Monks’ Garden and the Secret Garden; in the school room, we dressed up as Pharoah, stamped hieroglyphs, ankhs, scarab beetles, made pyramids and jigsaws; and then the highlight was going around the exhibition set up by the present Lady Carnarvon, with the most realistic copies of some of the things found in Tutankhamen’s tomb and loads of information about the journey and work of the 5th Earl of Carnarvon and Howard Carter. We definitely added to our knowledge and understanding of Ancient Egypt and had a good trip out.
