Head's Blog: A busy week at Moulsford

Head's Blog

We are pleased to report that, as far as we are aware, there have been no new Covid cases at school this week. We are very grateful to the Year 8 boys and their families for responding so swiftly to the temporary measures we put in place, and are grateful that those boys who tested positive are not feeling too bad. All being well, life will be back to ‘normal’ for the Year 8 boys on Tuesday.

This has been a particularly busy couple of weeks for the Parents Association (PA). The Autumn Equinox Party was a wonderful evening, which was so well supported by Moulsford parents. How fortunate we were with the weather. Similarly, the support shown to the Wallingford Food Bank on Wednesday by Moulsford families was also fantastic, and it is great to be part of a community which looks outward. Thank you to all members of the PA, and in particular Louise Holland (the Chair), and Sarah Edwards (the lead of the Autumn Equinox) for the energy, vision and leadership they give in bringing the Moulsford community together.

I am a member of a small group of Prep School Heads, and on Wednesday, we met in person for the first time in two years. This is a fascinating group in that each Head’s school has its own very distinct model: Ludgrove is an all-boys boarding school; Thomas’ Battersea is part of a privately owned London group, and is in the process of extending its offering to GCSEs; Cranleigh Prep is part of an all through school (3-18); and the Lisboan School is an international start-up in……….Lisbon. The pandemic has accelerated change in all sectors, including the independent schools’ market, and it is so useful to be to talk candidly to Heads and share ideas on educational trends, opportunities and developments across the sector.

The Moulsford community feel continues this weekend with the Moulsford Mudder on Sunday. The autumnal weather will make for a more interesting course, and we are delighted to welcome the Year 8 boys to the event who will compete in their own socially distanced mud-fest.
